May is here! Water temperatures are now solidly over 70 degrees and the fishery is shifting toward bigger bait and bigger fish. Mullet and Pilchards are starting to show along the shorelines and sandbars.  There will be snook, trout and redfish following these schools of bait as they move in and around the Indian river. Standard top water lures such as Zara Spooks and Chug Bugs will take fish early and then we usually switch to DOA CALS and Glow Shrimp after the sun is above the horizon. Nothing beats having a fish crash a top water lure at first light. Live baits including Pilchards and Greenies are excellent choices fished on the flats, mangrove shorelines and around the inlet.
